This is a very important topic that may not interest many, but it encompasses a great deal of my personal philosophy towards astrology.
The literal meaning of the word Jyotish (The Hindu word for Astrology) is “light” of heavenly bodies, and it is a science that explores how the heavenly lights affect human lives on earth. Astrology, or Jyotish, is a beautiful system that shows how intricately woven we are in all creation.
But, can taking cues from Astrology, God’s creation, be disrespectful? Especially Jyotish, which is so immersed in religion? Is it possible to use Astrology in a way that undermines God?
If Astrology is used in a way that replaces your faith in the Divine, then it is not being used in a productive way. Think of the Divine as a vast ocean – Astrology is merely a drop of that ocean. While Astrology is a brilliant tool to be used for self-discovery, don’t try to submerge yourself in “the drop” when you should be submerging into the ocean.
Some people don’t really want to hear this. In some cultures, people will consult astrologers before every decision in their life. In my humble opinion, that’s a bit extreme and shows a lack of faith. Are you really living your life if you rely on Astrology to answer every question? Consulting Astrology itself won’t solve your issues, it brings light to how you can work on solving them.
I want religious people to know that Astrology is a God-made system, that can be used in a way that shows reverence and doesn’t undermine God. I also want Astrology lovers to know that you have to remember Astrology isn’t the end-all be-all, it is not the source, but just a way we try to understand the source.
For me, a very important part of mastering interpretation is devotion, and this is why.
Peace,
