As someone who first learned Western astrology before branching into Vedic astrology, I have never been interested in debating which one is “better” than the other. Though there is a difference between Vedic Astrology and Western astrology, both are Zodiacal, meaning they both use the 12 signs and houses.
Because the roots of astrology go back far earlier than recorded history, with archaeological evidence of astrology found in India and Europe as far as 6,000 BC, I believe all branches of astrology stem from one system. However, because India has one of the oldest written languages (Sanskrit), it has preserved the ancient system of astrology better than any other part of the world. For this reason, Vedic astrology is a deep, deep well of ancient techniques that offer incredible accuracy and depth to chart analysis – much of which you will learn here!
While both have the same fundamental principals, the main difference between Vedic astrology and Western astrology is most Vedic astrologers use sidereal degrees, but many practice vedic astrology using tropical zodiac.
Is sidereal zodiac more accurate?
There is much debate between those who use tropical zodiac and sidereal. Because I don’t want to overload new learners with information, I will save it for another article and simply say this: Tropical zodiac has always been more accurate for me. If you want to know more, I recommend Ryan Kurczak’s video on the subject, since his experiences resonate with my own.
