If your Atmakaraka falls in the sign of Virgo in the Navamsa, you are Virgo Svamsa (also spelled swamsha). The word Svamsa means “souls portion” and shows some the traits you’re maturing throughout life. This is a Jaimini technique, and the original texts are very brief, like a line or two of information. This is why it’s generally not easy to find information on Svamsa – it relies on experience or contemplation of the sutra.

Virgo – like Gemini, as well as small fire.
Jaimini’s sutra’s describe Virgo Svamsa as being “like Gemini.” Similar to Gemini, Virgo svamsa indicates a person with strong attachment to concepts and ideas. But, what does it mean to be attached to mental concepts? This means being very set or rigid in your understanding of things. In this life you are a skilled rationalizer, with powers of discrimination and evaluation. When Virgo Svamsa is strong a person has great talent in discernment and judgement. The problem arises when life is not unfolding in accordance to how you think it should. There is an evolutionary need to let go of frustration caused by mental attachments by learning to practice detachment.
Both Gemini and Virgo are said to suffer from “itchiness” which to me means anxiousness and anxiety, both of which originate in overactive minds.
Virgo Svamsa: Issues with Digestive Fire
The sign of Virgo rules the stomach/intestines. This is where digestion and assimilation takes place, and represents Virgo’s ability to also process and understand information. The digestive process shows how when we consume something, we absorb and make use of what is beneficial while discarding what is not. When the sign of Virgo is under positive influence, a person knows how to make use of good information and simply passes on what is of no use to them. However, when Virgo is afflicted, one gets caught up in all the details, not knowing what to prioritize as useful and what information isn’t useful. Additionally, they may get hung up on everything they disagree with, anything that does not fit into their idea of what is right and wrong.

BPHS, Effects of Karakamsa, 4 1/2 In Virgo Navamsa there is fear from itches, stoutness, density, and fire, digestive fire.
The fact that this svamsa is associated with “small fire” (digestive issues) shows that an important lesson for Virgo svamsa is learning how to efficiently digest information in a way that is most beneficial to them. Also just digesting life in general without suffering from anxiety. There is a tendency to overthink, over-analyzing and getting bogged down taking on too much. There can also be literal/physical digestive issues. The fear of “stoutness” shows that at some point Virgo Svamsa may hold onto extra weight due to mental stress. Sometimes eating disorders can occur with this svamsa, but only with specific influences.
We can also get insight into areas of difficulty by looking at the planet that becomes debilitated in Virgo, which is Venus. My experience with Virgo svamsas has shown issues around sex and marriage, either dealing with sexual shame/repression or lack of a sex life.
Hope you learned something from this interpretation, hopefully Libra svamsa will come a bit sooner.

That’s insightful. But why is it that the issues raise around the sex life? If the issues are present, are they going to be there for the life? What about the solutions? Are there any? Thanks.

Hi Yash, the planet that becomes debilitated in Virgo gives us some information on what problems can occur in this svamsa. And for Virgo, it is Venus (sex/romance) that becomes debilitated. In my experience, this holds up as a common theme, but of course you’ll have to actually look at Venus in the chart to get a better picture. Are there solutions? Yes, there are always solutions and it is part of the game of life to discover those solutions. Almost nothing last the whole life, because we go through different dasa time periods, release karma, grow as people, etc. Hope this helps.
