I’ve written a bit about the power of thought, vision, intention, effort, etc. I do this because many who come to an astrologer do so because they’ve experienced a strain on their will, or the limitations of their efforts. I also write a lot on those topics because I see astrologers struggle to judge how much a person can overcome their challenges. After years (or decades) of seeing charts give their indicated fruits at the appointed time, astrologers are reluctant to encourage a person towards a desire if the chart doesn’t support it.
As I wrote here, the chart is a reflection of one’s consciousness and the events and situations their consciousness brings to life. A helpful astrologer can bring awareness to bad habits that perpetuate problems and undesirable situations.
But what about karma? Just like there is the law of attraction, karma is another universal law. Can you really control and change everything through sheer force of will and right thinking?
I choose to live with the belief that yes, everything can be changed. But the truth is, sometimes it can’t. In reality, fated events or your karma will bulldoze right over your willpower, manifestation efforts, and everything you did right. No one came to earth for a vacation. You may have noticed…this isn’t the vacation planet. Not in this yuga, anyway.
Loss, decay/illness, and even debts are inherent parts of life
At some point, life will slap you without warning. Or for some, getting punched in the gut and left gasping for air is more accurate. It would be misguided to think that The Law of Attraction can protect against all negative events, or is responsible for all of them. Other events might be for the purpose of instilling deep humility or a valuable lesson. At times, you may get tangled in others’ karma, or things happen to teach those around you. And yes – some are part of our karma accrued over lifetimes. How many personal stories have you heard from people who suffered and struggled for decades before life started to change for the better?
“Man is like a cow tied to a pole with a rope, bound by the karmic debts and human nature, and the amount of free will he has is analogous only to the amount of freedom the rope allows.”
– Sri Ramakrishna
So, in life we are bound by the extent to which we still suffer from anger, lust, greed, contempt, jealousy, and other afflictions, and by our karmas. The law of attraction works within the confines of karma (aka the law of cause and effect). This follows us for lifetimes.
So with that in mind, you have choices. I’m not encouraging resignation, just talking about something I don’t see discussed too often regarding karma and the law of attraction. Some people get discouraged if they have a lot of karma to burn, thinking their efforts are not working. Astrology gives us a few simple ways to judge how much baggage a person has to carry: mainly the 6th house and its lord, and planets conjunct Saturn. Perhaps I can cover that in another post.
Karmic limitations Can Improve
I advocate exercising willpower and consciously creating for a few reasons. The first is that I believe in the wisdom given to us by the saints and sages of our past, who taught us how our thoughts dictate what we experience in life. If you’re more scientifically minded, the Biology of Belief is a good place to start. The 2nd reason is, what choice do we really have? I guess you could accept and settle with everything you’re dealt in life. That might actually work out for some people, but it wouldn’t work for most of us.
But I also know that uncontrollable events are few compared to what you can change. Nearly everything depends on your efforts and habitual thoughts. When something that feels out of your control does come and grip your life, you’ll be glad to have done all you could have otherwise.
So, keep trying, and keep doing your best. Always make an effort regardless of what feels stacked against you. Once the karma has been burned, your own consciousness changes. As a result, the tide of destiny turns and is no longer pushing against you, but carrying you someplace better.
Peace,
